Zuru Clinics

Update:  The geographically large Kebbi Diocese has been divided into two smaller dioceses to improve leadership  and accountability in remote rural areas.  Our three partner clinics are now located in Zuru Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Ayuba Kanta.

Zuru Clinics

We began working with these remote rural clinics in 2001.  Since that time, we have worked to improve the human capital by educating the existing clinic staff and by educating young students to staff the clinics in the future. We have experienced many challenges in this effort and we are grateful that a few of the candidates have improved their skills and are now more competent and effective medical professionals.
We are also working to improve the physical capital by improving physical plant and drilling water wells for each location.  This effort has also been very challenging for a number of reasons, but we are making slow progress in improving the physical plan in each location.
We are not publishing the names of these clinic sites for security reasons. In 2025, we served 1,680 patients in these clinics, which is down from previous years due to security problems.

- Site # 1 - Has been the most effective site due to the highly competent staff workers.  We are operating the clinic in a Church School building.  Our efforts to build a new clinic here have been opposed by local government officials but we are working to improve relations by being good neighbors and by drilling a well which we will make available o local villagers.
- Site # 2 - After five years, we have received government permission to build a new clinic to replace a dilapidated building and have drilled a water well which is made available to the local villagers,  The building should be finished by late 2026.
- Site # 3 - Has suffered severe security problems and is now closed until local conditions improve.

History

We have begun a new partnership with the a rural Diocese in the northwestern part of Nigeria. The Christian community in this majority Muslim area is small and has very limited resources. This state is one of the most medically underserved in Nigeria. Health care statistics for maternal and child health are among the worst in Nigeria. None of the clinics are qualified to be registered as a state approved health facility. For security reasons, we are not publishing the names and locations of the three rural clinics and one main clinic now in the diocese of Zuru (formerly of Kebbi) where we are currently training staff and rebuilding clinics.
