Our Hybrid Approach To Meeting Medical Needs of Impoverished People Full-Time Clinics served 8,626 patients. This figure is down from previous years due to the very serious security problems at many of our clinic locations. Doctors have become kidnapping targets due to their perceived wealth and status. We have had difficulty recruiting and retaining doctors at our most vulnerable clinics. Clinic -Based Medical Outreach Missions served 2,702 patients. This figure has also been greatly reduced from previous years for the same reasons. We cannot hold high-profile medical outreaches , which we have done with great success in the past, because they are now targets for kidnapping, robbery and tribal/religious violence.
Mobile Clinics to Underserved Rural and Urban People served 17,203 patients. This figure has greatly expanded over the past three years. We have found this to be a safer way to help vulnerable people in underserved areas. Because the mobile clinics are short-term (usually a weekend) at different locations (usually urban or rural church facilities) they do not attract the same attention from criminals as do our clinic buildings. These outreaches meet basic primary care medical needs. The patients who need a greater level of care are referred to our clinics.
