CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN A WAR-WEARY WORLD

A message from the President & Executive Director ​

Dear friends and supporters,  At the birth of Jesus, the  angels proclaimed, “Peace on  earth and good will to all  people.” As we look around our  world today, we might ask:  “Where is the peace and good  will?” We see terrible wars  raging in Sudan, Ukraine,  Israel/Palestine and other  places. We see angry partisan  divisions in our own country. In Nigeria, we see economic  conditions and food insecurity  for the rural and urban poor  that are worse now than at any  time in the 22 years Kateri  Medical Services has been  working there. There is no  full-scale war at the moment, but desperate people competing for scarce resources take  extreme measures to survive  and localized violence is an ever-present reality. ​

Where is the peace on earth  and good will among people  that the angels promised? Where is the light of God’s love  that shone in the darkness on  that first Christmas long ago? There is a simple song that  many of us have heard and  sung: “Let there be peace on  earth and let it begin with me.” Christmas is an invitation to  become peacemakers in our  war-weary world. Christmas is  an invitation to share the love of God to others through our own  words and actions and  
relationships.  ​

At Kateri Medical Services, our mission is to bring simple,  decent and affordable medical care to the rural and  urban poor as a sign of Jesus’ love for people. That is our Christmas invitation to all of you. Help us  extend the love of Jesus through  medical care. It is a precious  and life-changing gift. Thanks  to all who have given so gener ously this past year. Please  give as generously as you can  this Christmas.
