Dear Friends and Supporters, Our work with medical clinics began on 2002 when three members of our Church ( John Hart, Jim Lawson and myself) traveled to Kaduna to see how we might be helpful in supporting Bishop Josiah and the Christian community in Kaduna Anglican Diocese. During our two-week stay, Bishop Josiah showed us many of the areas of needed help. And we prayed for guidance about how we might provide meaningful assistance. One day, we were taken to a remote rural village, called Kateri. The Diocese owned a small property adjacent to one of their parish churches. Bishop Josiah told us that he would like to open a medical clinic there to serve the rural residents who had no existing medical facility. As we toured the property, it became clear to all three of us that this was the mission God was calling us to do.
We left that day with the commitment to raise funds for a doctor and two nurses to serve the rural residents of Kateri. From that day forward, we began working on a plan to raise the funds to begin the clinic. About one year later in 2023, we held our first fund appeal event and raised enough funds to begin running Kateri Medical Clinic. And right from the start, John Hart was one of the most generous donors. In the years that followed, we formed a registered 501©3 non-profit corporation with myself as the President and John Hart as the Vice President and Jim Lawson as the Secretary. And so we have continued ever since. And from the first day until the present day, John Hart has been one of our most generous contributors and enthusiastic supporters, even in the past few years of his declining health. Now, one of our “Founding Fathers” has left us. We are very grateful for his leadership, his commitment and his abounding generosity to Kateri Medical Services. He has left us a legacy and an example to emulate. And thank you to everyone who has contributed funds and supported our work in many other ways over these many years. We are very grateful for every one of you. We can’t do this work without you. Sincerely yours, Rev. Tom Furrer
